Prime Minister Robert Fico remains the most trusted politician in Slovakia, according to a survey conducted between February 1 and 9 by the Institute for the Research of Public Opinion, part of the Slovak Statistics Office. It suggested that he enjoys the trust of 40 percent of those polled.
Compared with January this represents an increase of 2.3 percentage points. The poll found that the second most trustworthy politician in Slovakia was the incumbent head of state, President Ivan Gašparovič, who was backed by 13.8 percent of respondents. This represented a fall of 0.3 percentage points from January and as much as 7.3 percentage points since December last year.
The percieved trustworthiness of rival presidential candidate Iveta Radičová, by contrast, has risen. In February, 10.6 percent of those polled described her as trustworthy. In January she had 8.7 percent support.
As many as 21.9 percent of those polled said they did not trust any politician. SITA
