A poll of voters’ political preferences in the Banská Bystrica self-governing region (BBSK) showed that candidate Ján Lunter would become the unequivocal winner with 30.9 percent of the votes.
“The result of the poll means a great undertaking for us and is at the same time encouraging,” said Lunter as quoted by the TASR newswire.
Lunter stressed to the inhabitants of the BBSK the importance of voting on November 4 to ensure that the results would be the decision of the majority, not just a small group.
“I continue to campaign following this poll,” added Lunter as quoted by TASR, adding that the result could depend on how other democratic candidates deal with the poll's findings.

According to the Focus agency poll, ordered by Lunter, he would win with 30.9 percent of votes. The current chairman Marian Kotleba, who is also the leader of the extremist ĽSNS party, would get 22.2 percent.
The agency conducted its research via phone. Respondents answered the question: “Candidacy for the seat of chairman in the Banská Bystrica self-governing region was announced by 17 candidates. If the election took place this weekend, which candidate would get your vote?”
The sample was made up from 1,023 respondents who were over 18 and who represented the inhabitants of the BBSK in respects of gender, age, education, nationality, size of residence and district of the region.
From the results, it is clear that 11.3 percent of respondents would not vote, 29.8 percent said “I don’t know, I haven’t decided yet” and 1.3 percent refused to answer the question.
Other candidates ended up with the following results: Martin Klus 11,0 %, Stanislav Mičev 10,4 %, Martin Juhaniak 8,7 %, Pavel Greksa 3,9 %, Jozef Šimko 2,9 % (he had already given up his candidacy), Igor Kašper 2,7 %, Alena Pivovarčiová 1,9 %, Ivan Saktor 1,5 %, Miroslav Gálik 1,2 %, Milan Urbáni 1,0 %, Michal Kantor 0,5 %, Vojtech Kökény 0,5 %, Zdenek Očovan 0,3 %, Viliam Baňák 0,2 % a Jozef Sásik 0,2 %.
If Lunter was the only democratic candidate running against Kolteba, he would gain 37.6 percent of votes, Klus would gain 26.2 percent and Mičev 27.8 percent
