Poll shows a majority of Slovaks think that extremist party should be banned

The extremist party of Marian Kotleba, which has MPs sitting in parliament, should be banned according to 68.5 percent of Slovaks, in a poll taken by the Polis Slovakia agency for the SITA newswire

The poll took place between June 13 and 19 on a sample of 1,208 respondents from around the country who were over 18. They were given the following statement and question - “General Prosecutor Jaromír Čižnár has filed a motion with the Supreme Court to dissolve the ĽSNS party of Marian Kotleba. Are you for the CC banning this party?”

A total of 68.5 percent of those polled said ‘Yes’. Of them, 44.2 percent claim ‘Definitely yes’ and 24.3 percent say ‘Rather yes than no’.

At the other end of the scale, 18.6 percent of Slovaks believe the People’s Party Our Slovakia (ĽSNS) should not be banned, of whom 9.7 percent said ‘Definitely not’ and 8.9 percent answered ‘Rather no than yes’.

12.9 percent responded to the question with ‘I do not know’, SITA wrote on June 27.
