PRESIDENT Ivan Gašpa-rovič said he would not promote any more police or military officers or appoint new Slovak ambassadors until after this year's parliamentary elections on June 17.

"I wouldn't like to see the new government sacking these appointees the day after it takes office," Gašparovič said following his meeting with Interior Minister Martin Pado, who had handed him a proposal for promoting police officers.
