The government decided to merge the two public health insurance companies into one and allow the country’s four private health insurers to continue to operate at its session on May 23.

According to Education Minister Ján Mikolaj, the currently state-owned Všeobecná Zdravotná Poisťovna and Spoločná Zdravotná Poisťovna will merge into a single state-owned health insurance company, while current private insurers will not be expropriated, as the health minister Ivan Valentovič had originally proposed.
