DESPITE opposition from the regional state office in eastern Slovakia's Prešov, a non-governmental organisation named Vlk (Wolf) has opened what it calls a private nature reserve for wolves in the Čergov hills near Prešov.
Money for the 21-hectare site, which the NGO bought from its previous owners for Sk3.2 million ($70,000), was raised through a campaign in which people symbolically 'bought' a tree for Sk1,000. Among the contributors were Slovak PM Mikuláš Dzurinda and Czech President Václav Havel.
