Prosecutor: patients bribing doctor charged

Within the fight against corruption in Slovak health care, two patients of the former senior doctor at the Urology Department of Skalica Hospital who is charged with receiving a bribe, face also a suit for bribing him.

The Special Prosecutor’s Office (ÚŠP) prosecutor filed the charges at the Specialised Criminal Court on July 27. ÚŠP spokeswoman Jana Tökölyová informed the SITA newswire that prosecutor charged the suspects, Ľuboš Š. and Ladislav N. for the misdemeanour of bribing. The doctor, identified as Jozef M., has already been charged.

Ľuboš Š. gave the senior doctor a bribe of €50 at his ward in Skalica hospital in January, according to the charges. This was a bribe for the health care rendered and for the treatment already made. Ladislav N. Also gave a bribe to the senior doctor in his office, this time €40.

The former senior doctor is seeking a guilty plea which is expected to be approved by the court. The session should start on August 19. The doctor admitted to having received various bribes in 26 cases between November 9, 2015 and January 11, 2016 – in various amounts.
