The Special Prosecutor's office will investigate a video released by the national heritage organisation, Matica Slovenská, about the fascist Slovak state, Pravda daily reported.

Matica Slovenská published the video entitled “Bez 14. marca” (Without March 14) on YouTube in mid-February to commemorate the establishment of the World War 2 Slovak State on March 14, 1939.

The approximately five-minute video speculates about what would have happened if Slovaks had stood up against Adolf Hitler and the independent Slovak State had not been set up.

Every year Matica Slovenská tries to somehow justify or glorify the wartime Slovak state (1939 – 1945), Pravda cites historian Adam Hudek.

The Culture Ministry has also condemned the video.

The document will be addressed by the Special Prosecutor’s Office, which has, since January of this year, been dealing with extremism and the promotion of fascism.

The leadership of Matica Slovenská argues that it is a work of art and not a scientific document but has still removed the video from the internet.
