Thousands of people rallied in Bratislava and Košice on July 4 in protest calling on Prime Minister Robert Fico and Interior Minister Robert Kaliňák to resign.

In Bratislava about 2,000 people gathered at the rally organised by the opposition Ordinary People/Independent Personalities-NOVA (OĽaNO-NOVA) and the Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) for the third time. The first such a rally took place two weeks ago in front of the housing complex Bonaparte in which also PM Fico lives.
People in the protest rally in Bratislava held red cards in their hands for PM Fico. Some of them held banners with slogans like banana republic or called for taking consequences.
Opposition politicians who gave speeches pointed especially to corruption in politics, plundering of the state, crisis of the society, interconnection of oligarchs with politicians or trampled justice.
“No other democratic country in modern Europe has fallen deeper,” said Igor Matovič, leader of OĽaNO-NOVA as cited by the TASR newswire.
In Košice about 1,500 – 2,000 people protested against Fico and Kaliňák and called for their resignation when some estimates were even as high as 3,000.
Along with Košice citizens opposition MPs Ľubomír Galko, Daniel Lipšic, Oto Žarnay, Jozef Rajtár, Jozef Mihál and Jana Cigániková attended the rally. Filip Rybanič, the assistant of MP Jozef Rajtár (SaS) who had a look at Kaliňák’s account and reported about suspicious transactions, occurred in public for the first time since the revelation.

The opposition politicians declared they are ready to continue the protests.
