Since then, the public library has transformed, but it continues to attract its readers, numbering almost 10,000 as of this year.

“Currently, we have 9,500 readers, 280,000 documents, 450,000 borrowings annually (not counting the actual service) and, what is gratifying, about 120,000 visitors a year,” head of the Public Library of Ján Bocatio, Klára Kernerová, told the TASR newswire. She mentioned the people who attend the library’s events, as it organises, apart from lending books, also some cultural and community happenings.

These intensified around the anniversary, as between September 2014 and the end of this year, a host of discussions have been organised, an exhibition of the residing Fotoklub NOVA, a campaign called Donate a Book (striving to procure library books published since 2010 which are lacking), as well as literary debates with writers, a music-literary event entitled “I Know Already What to Read and Listen To” and a reading of Jewish poetry.
