Bus and railway transport fares should increase by 10 percent from January 1 of next year. Fare discounts should be lowered from the current 70 to 60 percent, news wire SITA reported.
Transport Minister Pavol Prokopovič explained that this move reflects the raising of the VAT from 14 to 19 percent and the inflation rate.
The last time fares rose it was by 15 percent on January 1, 2003. Discounts were reduced from 85 to 70 percent on bus transportation and from 81 to 70 percent on passenger railway transport.
