Sharing a homeland, ie Britain, with citizens from former colonies and current members of the British Commonwealth would be considered by some as a moral obligation. Obligations implied by membership of the EU are somewhat later arrivals on the scene.
David's first point is completely relevant here. When I first arrived to Slovakia, I actually led a better lifestyle than I had trying to make ends meet in Britain. Now, I can't afford to move back. Yes, there are hidden factors which skew the equation somewhat, but life, as they say, is what you make it, and circumstances have enabled me to make a better life in Slovakia.
