Reader feedback: Involve the parents, October 25 - 31, Vol 10, No 41
I don't want to suggest that parents should sponsor their children's school with second hand computers. No, I am saying they should "sponsor" their school with their hands and experience and know-how. Leave the money in the pocket, try to help the school get that shelf up, mow the lawn for once (with your own lawn mower because the school doesn't have the money to fix the old one), paint the walls some nice new colours, have a day with parents being teachers (while the real teachers are getting some professional development at a university) and so on. Everyone can contribute something.
