Re: MPs will not pay traffic fines, March 20 - March 26, 2006

I can't understand the logic to this amendment to the traffic laws, allowing MPs to disregard speed restrictions on the road without the threat of being fined.

Is it that MPs work is so time critical like that of emergency ambulances, fire engines or police answering a call for help? I doubt it.

Or is it that to be allowed to break traffic laws without prosecution is seen as a privilege? If so, that says something about the outlook of the MPs themselves.

Whatever the logic, the effect will be that the roads will not be so safe, and speeding MPs will not be recognised by other drivers as MPs but simply drivers breaking traffic laws. This could then have a knock-on effect as it create further disregard of driving regulations amongst the population in general. It sends out all the wrong signals.
