Re: ANO opposes treaty with Vatican, News Briefs, October 24-30, 2005
The treaty with the Vatican is more far-reaching in its scope than simply allowing doctors to refuse to carry out abortions on the basis of their religious beliefs.
Many aspects of public life are affected and the areas covered by the treaty supersede Slovak law, putting the Slovak Constitution into second place.
Proper discussion has not taken place on this treaty. It seems that attempts are being made to slip it though without any proper national debate. All the more serious since, once ratified, it cannot be altered or rescinded without the agreement of the Vatican and has no time limitation.
