The HZDS affirmed its trust in National Security Office (NBÚ) chief František Blanárik, pointing out that recent media reports alleging that he collaborated with the communist-era military counterintelligence service have not been verified.
The SNS stated that it does not have any concerns about Blanárik either. The mission of the NBÚ is to vet people who might require access to classified information.
The media reported that Blanárik’s file shows his collaboration might have been deliberate and active. Blanárik became NBÚ chief after Robert Fico's government came to power in June 2006. In April 2006, he was granted security clearance even though that is not allowed for collaborators with the communist secret services.
TV Markiza found information about Blanárik's past in the Prague archive of security services. According to information from the archive, he reported on Major Ladislav B., who secretly provided accommodation to relatives from the former West Germany for one night in August 1983.
