THE POSTAL and distribution firm (PONS) that is owned by the state may be sold to its biggest market competitor - Mediaprint Kapa.
The state is considering selling PONS, which deals with collecting subscription fees and the distribution of periodicals.
Mediatprint Kapa, owned by influential businessman Ivan Kmotrík confirmed its interest in the purchase.
Private publishers, however, are protesting the move, stating that they feared possible manipulation of the subscribers' databases and that once sold to private hands, PONS would not cover its old debts towards them.
If Mediaprint Kapa gained PONS it would monopolize the market in the field.
The PONS supervisory board is expected to decide today on the fate of PONS.
