Using satellite technology rather than toll booths on motorways is more advantageous in Slovakia, according to Bruno Corthier, the director of Sanef's (France) division of engineering activities and construction development.
He was speaking on September 20 in Bratislava during a simulation of the electronic toll system's operation. Sanef is one of the companies interested in building the system in Slovakia.
"Sanef doesn't produce any of the technological components needed to run the toll system because it is a system operator," says Corthier. Therefore, he says the company has been totally independent in terms of selecting the technology to be used.
Sanef announced its interest in participating in the tender for supplying a comprehensive service in the collection of electronic road tolls in Slovakia on April 25. Company representatives at that time said they were ready to implement either satellite, a hybrid or a microwave system in Slovakia. After studying the conditions, Sanef, mostly in view of the scheduled scope of the introduction of fees in Slovakia, decided that the most suitable appeared to be satellite technology, which uses the GPS navigation system.
