The issuance of biometric passports, entry into the Schengen information system and supervision of borders will bring Slovakia closer to the visa-free regime with the United States, the Hospodárske noviny daily wrote.
These criteria, which Slovakia had to meet to enter the Schengen zone, are also among the criteria of Washington for inclusion of the country to the Visa Waiver program. Slovak Foreign Affairs Minister Ján Kubiš said that the US might open its doors to Slovakia by next year.
However, Slovakia still has to fulfil the criterion of a 10-percent rejection level for visa applications. Currently, 12 percent of visa applications are rejected. SITA
