PRESIDENT Rudolf Schuster, participating in a political round table on Thursday April 18 said he intended after September elections to give a mandate to form a government to the political party he felt would not threaten Slovakia's integration ambitions.
While not directly mentioning the HZDS opposition party of former Prime Minister Vladimír Mečiar, the president's words were interpreted by political analysts as a signal to domestic voters and foreign governments that the HZDS would not be permitted to return to power.
