Iveta Radičová, vice-chair of the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ), has stated that she’s ready to run for the first spot on the party’s candidate list in the parliamentary elections in June, the TASR newswire reported.
Radičová, an unsuccessful candidate in last year’s presidential elections, told TASR that if SDKÚ members seem willing, she is prepared to assume the role of party leader.
The position on the party’s election ticket was left vacant on February 1 when SDKÚ chairman and former PM Mikuláš Dzurinda announced in the wake of a party-funding scandal that he would not be running in the June election, though he would stay involved in politics.
Another SDKÚ party vice-chairman, Ivan Mikloš, has also expressed interest in taking first place on his party’s election ticket, but the party will not decide who will be its slate's number one until their primary elections, due to be held on February 27. TASR
