Former Defence Minister Ivan Šimko lashed out at leaders of his party, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ). He claimed that "unhealthy conditions" rule the party, though for now he remains its member, daily SME wrote.
According to Šimko, the party could be healed only after changing leadership and revealing the financial background of some party links. Despite being a member of the top management of the party, Šimko does not have access to information about party financing.
The former SDKÚ deputy chairman claims he will try to unite party members who have a sense for "value-based politics".
Šimko was removed from the top party post on September 10 at Prime Minister Mikulás Dzurinda's request. The PM lost confidence in Šimko after he abstained in a Cabinet vote on the recall of Ján Mojžiš as head of the National Security Office (NBÚ). Šimko also lost his post as defence minister due to party disobedience.
