THE SLOVAK Intelligence Service (SIS) announced that it would file a motion at the Attorney General's office over suspicion of a leak of classified information. Yesterday the daily SME published quotes that were allegedly part of this classified material.
SME wrote that two high standing officials confirmed that the quote "Miloš Žiak is a Jew and his wife Marina is a Russian Jew" was part of the material, which SIS sent to President Rudolf Schuster recently.
The quote caused a stir among analysts and commentators, many of whom accused the SIS of anti-Semitism.
SIS denied that it collected data on people "based on their religion or ethnic origin, only exclusively on their attitude towards the country's laws".
PM Mikuláš Dzurinda also rejected the allegations of anti-Semitism in SIS and repeated that he trusted and supported SIS chief Ladislav Pittner.
