The Slovak Intelligence Service (SIS) allegedly warned the Hungarian National Security Office that a wave of bomb attacks might hit Hungary during the last days of the campaign before the country's April parliamentary elections.
Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány confirmed the existence of the threat at a special press conference on March 28, the SITA news wire wrote.
The Hungarian daily Népszabadság wrote that Hungarian security bodies obtained the information from an anonymous source in Bratislava.
The daily revealed that the Slovak Intelligence Service was informed of the attacks by sources in the Dunajská Streda underworld. Three people who operate in Croatia and Hungary are allegedly behind the planned attacks.
András Tóth, the Hungarian minister responsible for coordinating the secret services, refused to comment on the story.
The SIS also stated that they never inform the public of their intelligence activities. SIS spokesman Vladimír Šimko said only that the secret service had very good and fair working relations with all Hungarian intelligence services and that they closely and successfully cooperate in many spheres.
