The ceremonial opening of Slovak House in Prague has to be postponed from the planned date of October 13 – the day of President Andrej Kiska’s visit to the Czech Republic – to a so far unspecified date, chairman of the World Association of Slovaks Living Abroad Vladimír Skalský announced on his social network profile.
Skalský informed the TASR newswire on October 8 that the Slovak Embassy in Prague had notified him about the change due to a modification in the schedule for October 13 of Kiska and Czech President Miloš Zeman, who originally also should have been present at the ceremony.
“I’m sorry for that, because we were prepared for October 13 ... but I believe that another date will be found as soon as possible,” Skalský said, adding that he is in continuous contact with the Slovak Embassy and both Kiska’s and Zeman’s offices.
The symbolic foundation stone of the Slovak House was laid in May by Zeman and then outgoing Slovak president Ivan Gašparovič who was on his farewell visit to the Czech Republic. Slovak House should serve as a multi-functional hall, gallery, library and archive that will be open for all Czecho-Slovak and Slovak activities and institutions.
