According to Kika, the company made the decision because it believes that it is no longer possible to maintain the competitiveness of the route compared with other means of transport.

But Kika said that "SkyEurope is close to reaching an agreement with Bratislava’s airport that will benefit us, but not as far as operating the Bratislava-Prague route is concerned."

Kika also said that the carrier will not only continue to operate its Košice-Prague route, but will even boost capacity on "important days".

"We view the Czech Republic as significant in terms of the development of airline transport, and we plan to introduce flights to new destinations from Prague in our summer flight schedule," he said.

SkyEurope began operating its twice-daily Bratislava-Prague route in October 2007. An air link between the two cities will continue to be provided by Czech Airlines. TASR
