The Slovak National Party (SNS) wants to begin talks in January about what it calls the "overblown cases" that have been connected with the party by the media, SNS head Ján Slota told journalists on December 15.
The media have been waging a smear campaign against SNS for almost two years, using lies as the main method, Slota claimed.
“It's beyond comprehension,” TASR quoted Slota as saying. “I believe that the vast majority of the Slovak public has comprehended what's going on there.”
Slota said he wants to talk about the controversial bulletin-board tender at the Construction and Regional Development Ministry (led by SNS), the case involving the sale of carbon-dioxide emissions quotas at the Environment Ministry (led by SNS at the time when the scandal emerged) and the shady fly-ash tender.
Several SNS ministers were forced to leave their posts over the scandals: environment minister Jaroslav Izák in August 2008, construction minister Marian Janušek in April 2009, environment minister Ján Chrbet in May 2009 and another environment minister Viliam Turský in August 2009. Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer) then removed the Environment Ministry from SNS's remit altogether.
