The Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza wrote in its web issue that Slovak Ambassador to Poland Vasil Grivna has been violating Polish traffic rules since 2011, and that, allegedly, diplomatic immunity has protected him from receiving stiff fines. On May 28, 2013 he ignored a red light, and were he not a diplomat, he would have to have paid a fine equalling €118. Three months earlier, he was halted by police for speeding, facing a potential fine of over €200.
Grivna explained his driving was due to the terrible condition of Polish roads, the Sme daily quoted Gazeta Wyborcza. The Slovak Foreign Ministry informed that due to the fact that Polish authorities have not launched any motion against Grivna, there is nothing to discuss. Grivna himself is allegedly on a business trip and he has not commented on the story so far.
There are 1,800 cars with diplomatic status in Poland. From January to June of this year, radars recorded 310 violations of traffic rules.
