Slovak and US Defence officials meet in Washington

Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glváč accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces General Milan Maxim left for an official visit to the United States on January 7.

Slovak Defence Minister Martin Glváč accompanied by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces General Milan Maxim left for an official visit to the United States on January 7.

In Washington D.C., Glváč will also meet with the US Secretary of Defence
Chuck Hagel.

“The United States is our strategic partner,” Glváč said, as quoted by the SITA newswire. “Our good military cooperation has significantly contributed to the modernisation of our armed forces. As an example I can mention armoured vehicles, radio communication and other equipment worth more than USD20 million. We can consider this support a historic achievement of our bilateral cooperation.”

Glváč will also meet with the Director of the Defense Security Cooperation Agency Joseph Rixey, the Governor of Indiana Mike Pencom, and the Adjutant General of Indiana National Guard R. Martin Umbarger.
