Slovak canoeist Michal Martikán inducted into the Whitewater Hall of Fame

Top Slovak slalom canoeist and Olympic winner Michal Martikán was inducted into the International Whitewater Hall of Fame in Gaithersburg, in the US state of Maryland, on September 25, 2010. He received the prestigious international award for his exceptional athletic results – he is a current Olympic and world champion – and his general contribution to the development and promotion of canoeing.

He was chosen for the honour as one of five personalities from the whole world. About 200 people took part in the ceremony, including several Olympic athletes and World Championship participants, from the USA as well as other countries.

Martikán gave a speech and expressed thanks for the honour via video-conference. He was represented in Gaithersburg by Andrej Droba, a representative of Slovak Embassy in Washington, DC.
