Slovak Defence Minister Jaroslav Baška is attending a two-day meeting of defence ministers from NATO member states in Krakow, Poland, the SITA newswire reported.
The ministers are discussing the current NATO agenda focusing on military operations mainly in Afghanistan and Kosovo. They are also debating the stabilization and reconstruction of Afghanistan within the mission and the establishment of local security forces.
The NATO countries will also be meeting with representatives from the non-NATO countries which are taking part in the mission in Afghanistan, SITA wrote.
On February 20, the main topic will be NATO transformation and the ministers from NATO member states will hold talks with Ukraine and Georgia. This regular informal meeting of defence ministers is the last one before the NATO summit which will take place in Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Germany on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of NATO.
The summit will focus on examining NATO’s achievements so far and defining strategic goals for the future. The next informal meeting of defence ministers from NATO member states will be held in Bratislava in October, 2009.
