8,372, the official number of victims of the Srebrenica genocide in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1995, was spray-painted on the walls of the Slovak and Hungarian embassies in Sarajevo.

The red graffiti appeared on June 14, three weeks after the UN approved a resolution declaring July 11 an international day of remembrance for its victims, Bosnian Muslim boys and men, reports Radio Free Europe.

Hungary was among the 19 countries that joined Serbia in voting against the resolution, while Slovakia was among the 68 countries that abstained from voting.

The Sarajevo police classified the incident as vandalism.

Neither embassy wished to comment on the incident.

The non-binding resolution condemns the denial of the Srebrenica genocide as a historical event, and condemns acts that glorify individuals convicted of war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide.

The Srebrenica massacre in June 1995 was carried out by members of the Army of the Republika Srpska. In 2007, the International Court of Justice in The Hague classified it as genocide.

More than 50 people have been convicted in connection with the genocide, including then-President of the Republika Srpska, Radovan Karadžić, and its army commander, Ratko Mladić.
