The week-long Summer School of Journalism, which opened on August 11 in Bratislava, is aimed at training Slovaks living abroad, the TASR newswire was told by Commenius University Journalism Department head Jan Sand.
Nineteen students and media staffers from seven countries - Ukraine, Serbia, Hungary, Sweden, Germany, Romania and Montenegro - will attend lectures and practical courses on the basic fields of journalism. This year's course is centered on Slovak Radio, and the attendees will meet short-story radio pioneer Pavol Hudík. They will also visit museums, Devín Castle and attend various cultural events, said Sand. "They will use what they learn during the course in a final project, and receive a certificate confirming their graduation."
"A professional education is the foundation stone of a tolerant person," said Deputy Prime Minister for a Knowledge-Based Society, European Affairs, Human Rights and Minorities Dusan Čaplovič when commenting on the event, according to news wire TASR.
