SLOVAK Katarína Mathernová has been named deputy director of the General Directorate of the European Commission for Regional Policy, the EC announced on July 18.
Roman Schonwiesner from the EC Representation Office in Bratislava told the TASR newswire that Mathernová will look after three political directorates and the co-ordination of relations with other directorates and relevant bodies in member countries.
Mathernová is set to take on responsibilities in the area of the cohesion policy of the EU and to ensure that the policy is based on economic analyses and the Lisbon Strategy's priorities.
Mathnerová has worked for the EC since 2005, and before that was a senior private sector development specialist at the World Bank. From 1999 to 2002 she was chief institutional and policy advisor to the deputy prime minister for economic affairs in Slovakia.
