The fixed-line operator Slovak Telekom has paid a fine of Sk1 million for not enabling its clients to keep their telephone number when they wanted to switch to another operator.

Roman Vavro, a spokesman of the market regulator and licensing authority, the Telecommunications Office of the Slovak Republic, announced the fine on August 24.

"I believe that the imposed fine is a clear sign for those who would like to violate the law, prevent the development of competition and discourage users from exercising their rights," the regulator's chairman, Branislav Mačaj, said in mid-August, after the office confirmed its decision.
