The Tokaj area, which straddles the border between Slovakia and Hungary, is to be recognised as a single common region, unique in global terms. Slovak Agriculture Ministers Zdenka Kramplová and her Hungarian counterpart József Graf agreed on this move at their meeting at the international Salima food industry fair in Brno, Czech Republic, on March 5.
This is another step towards a final agreement on the use of the Tokaj wine brand between Slovakia and Hungary, Kramplová's spokesperson Katarína Belická told SLOVAKIA. The ministers also agreed that such a declaration must make it clearly understood that the Tokaj area is a "historic jewel that we share, and for which we are jointly responsible". Both politicians also concurred that the key aim is to protect the quality of local wines. TASR
