The Justice Ministry has apologised to former three-time interior minister Robert Kaliňák from the Smer party for the unlawful criminal prosecution and detention in the Súmrak (Twilight) case.
If the apology had not been issued, Kaliňák, the future defence minister, was prepared to claim €35,000 in damages.
The police continue to investigate the case today.
General prosecutor ignores courts
Kaliňák and his party boss, Smer leader and future PM Robert Fico, are suspected of exploiting the police and the country’s tax authority, the Financial Administration, in the past to compromise Smer’s political opponents, including former Slovak president Andrej Kiska.
