Twenty-three shearers competed in eliminating rounds on Saturday, with four facing off in the final round.

"We want to continue this tradition," Pavel Srpoň, the head of the competition, told SITA. "It is interesting that in the finals, there were shearers who are descendants of former Slovak sheep shearing champion Jozef Kubek: his sons Jozef and Radoslav.“

The Association of Sheep and Goats Breeders in Slovakia and the SPDP Lúžňan co-operative organised the international championship.

"This is the fifth time this event has taken place in Liptovská Lúžna," Pavol Husarčík, the head of the municipal office, said. "But this is the first time there's been international participation, with shearers from Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.“
