SLOVAKIA will hold the 75th ice hockey World Championships in 2011, following its selection for the tournament in Riga on May 19.
The annual congress of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) chose the Bratislava-Košice project by 70 votes out of 104 ahead of bids by Sweden and Finland, the TASR news agency wrote.
For Slovakia to stage the event, it will have to build a modern ice rink in Bratislava, likely between the Apollo and Pristavný most bridges on the Petržalka side of the Danube River.
