The EU Council reports on its website that representatives of EU-member states decided on July 26 that Estonia will take over the Presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2017, replacing the United Kingdom. Estonia was originally slated to preside over the EU Council right after the UK between January-June 2018, the TASR newswire reported.

With regard to the fact that the UK is leaving the EU, member states decided to bring forward by six months the order of all presidencies as of July 1, 2017.

Moreover, the EU Council agreed to add Croatia on the list of presidencies, as in 2007 – when the original decision on the order of the presidencies was approved – Croatia was not yet a member state and, therefore, was not on the list. Croatia will then take over the Presidency of the EU Council for the period January-June 2020, TASR reported.
