In line with expectations, Ján Figeľ will be the leader on the Christian Democratic Movement’s (KDH) slate for this year's general election, the party's national assembly decided on Saturday, January 30, as reported by TASR.
The former Slovak EU commissioner will be followed on the list by KDH ex-chairman and current parliamentary caucus leader Pavol Hrušovský, TASR wrote. Commenting on the approved slate, he said KDH's ambition is to win more than 20 parliamentary seats in the general election ahead.
The slate continues with party vice-chairmen Daniel Lipšic, followed by Július Brocka, Mária Sabolová, Jana Žitňanská, Anton Marcinčin and Ivan Uhliarik. The positions 9 to 16 are occupied by nominees of the regional KDH councils. This is the first party to have approved its list of candidates for the general election. If, as expected, the election is held on June 12, all parties must register their slates by mid-March.
KDH won 14 seats in Parliament four years ago but five members left their caucus since then. Peter Gabura (who didn't make it to the slate this time because of a disciplinary motion launched against him) was the first one to leave. Later he was followed by Vladimír Palko, Pavol Minárik, Rudolf Bauer and František Mikloško, who then formed the Party of Slovak Conservative Democrats (KDS). TASR
