Vice-chairman of the ruling Smer party and Education Minister Dušan Čaplovič will probably be allowed to keep his party position, according to the SITA newswire.

Thus, neither Žilina regional governor Juraj Blanár, nor Environment Minister Peter Žiga will take his place in the party, as was rumoured. The only new vice-chair to be elected at the Saturday, June 28, Smer congress is state secretary at the Finance Ministry Peter Pellegrini who is to replace recently elected European Parliament deputy Vladimír Maňka. Marek Maďarič who last week resigned from the post of party vice-chair is expected to return to this position.

Immediately after the congress government changes are expected. Education Minister Čaplovič should be replaced by his state secretary Pellegrini; and Economy Minister Tomáš Malatinský should cede his position to his state secretary Pavol Pavlis. Five state secretaries should be replaced, too, SITA wrote, timing the changes within a week after the congress.
