The Guard was created by Hungary’s rightist Movement for a Better Hungary (Jobbik) party to “protect Hungary against incursions by neighbouring countries”, according to party chairman Gábor Vona, who organized a rally for the group on August 25 in Budapest.

Smer-SD is also concerned that Fidesz, Hungary’s second largest party, participated in the rally, and that the SMK "doesn't conceal its very close ties to Fidesz". TASR
