A QUARTER of Slovaks support the opposition party Smer, according to a Statistics Office public opinion poll carried out in the first week of June. This represents a rise of two percentage points since May.
The opposition Movement for a Democratic Slovakia was supported by 17.7 percent, followed by the parties of the ruling coalition, the Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (12.7 percent), the Hungarian Coalition Party (10.3 percent), the New Citizen's Alliance (9.4 percent), and the Christian Democrats (9.1 percent).
Other parties, including the parliamentary Communist Party, received less than the 5 percent cut-off for a parliamentary position. Thirty percent of respondents said they supported no political party.
