DESPITE the ruling parties yesterday managing to gain enough votes for a parliamentary majority, with 78 MPs, the ruling Hungarian Coalition Party (SMK) and the Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) parties insist that early elections should be held as soon as possible, preferably in March or April 2006, the daily SME reported.
Following a special meeting of the ruling parties, Prime Minister Mikláš Dzurinda's Slovak Democratic and Christian Union (SDKÚ) and the group surrounding Ľubomír Lintner communicated that for them early elections are not acceptable and that if the SMK proposes a law to shorten the election term, they will consider it a breach of the Coalition Agreement.
According to the daily, however, should the SMK drop the idea of early elections, the KDH would as well.
The SMK top party body will decide on whether to formally propose early elections to parliament or not.
