The newly reunited non-parliamentary Slovak National Party (SNS) failed to elect a leader at its national congress on Saturday. The first round of voting was narrowly won by current leader Anna Malíková over Jozef Prokeš, but not by enough votes to secure the leadership.
The second round ended with a wider margin for Malíková, but she was still four votes short of victory. Some delegates then left the congress, complaining that the voting commission was being manipulated by Malíková.
Another non-parliamentary party, the Democratic Left (SDĽ), managed to elect a new leader at the weekend: Ľubomír Petrák, the 42-year-old mayor of Hurbanová Ves.
