THE RATE of software piracy in Slovakia dropped by one percent last year to 47 percent, according to the Global Piracy Study by the Business Software Alliance (BSA).
According to BSA Slovensko spokesman Roman Karabelli, piracy damages to software producers in Slovakia decreased from $48 million to $44 million last year, the SITA news agency wrote.
The global software piracy figure remains at 35 percent, while global losses caused by software pirates came to $34 billion, an increase of $1.6 billion from 2004.
The lowest piracy rate was reported in the USA where it stands at 21 percent.
The piracy rate in the Central and Eastern European region fell in 15 out of 18 countries monitored in the study. Ukraine posted the biggest drop in software piracy, down six percentage points to a still massive 85 percent. The average piracy rate in the region was 69 percent.
