The local authorities in Orechová Potôň (Trnava region) announced on December 1 that construction work on a photovoltaic solar-power plant is due to be launched in the autumn of 2009.
Bratislava-based investor Nawitas Development, which is prepared to spend €54 million (Sk1.6 billion) on the project, selected the site due to the amount of sunshine enjoyed in the area near the town of Dunajská Streda. Orechová Potôň is among the sunniest places in Slovakia.
The local authorities are also considering building a wind farm next to the solar-power plant. If approved, this project, which is currently being evaluated by environmental experts, will be launched in 2010. TASR
