THE CURRENT chief justice of the Special Court for organized crime, Igor Králik, has won a job tender for the top post at the court for the second time in a row.
Králik was picked as the winner by a five-member commission comprising Justice Ministry, Supreme Court, Judicial Council, and Special Court representatives. Special Court justices Michal Truban and Vladimír Peteja ranked second and third, respectively.
It is the second time Králik has won the job tender following a previous tender in December 2006. Justice Minister Štefan Harabin did not appoint him to the post on the first occasion after the runner-up candidates withdrew in the hope of paving the way to Králik’s selection. Harabin then decided to announce a new
job tender, arguing he wanted "to ensure that the selection procedure is transparent".
According to the law, the justice minister can select any of the three most successful job tender candidates to be chief justice of the Special Court.
It is still unclear whether Harabin will now confirm Králik for the top Special Court position. The minister has until the end of March to decide, as that is when Králik's current term in office ends.
