The daily Pravda reports that it has learned that some state agencies intend to cut overhead by laying off some civil servants before the new labour code comes into force.
The new code makes mandatory certain severance payments during the final weeks of employment after the worker had given notice. By laying off workers early, the agencies can realize big savings.
Earlier this year, Prime Minister Robert Fico ordered government departments to reduce their staffs by twenty percent.
